Martinez seeks reinstatement as Wagon Mound Superintendent

In a complaint filed by Attorney Kate Ferlic, former Wagon Mound superintendent, Sheryl McNellis-Martinez, is requesting reinstatement after being fired six months into her board approved three year contract. The complaint also states the newly elected board violated the New Mexico Open Meetings act by placing McNellis-Martinez on administrative leave before announcing to the public their intent to fire the superintendent.

Attorney Kate Ferlic told the Santa Fe New Mexican, “The crux of the case is whether a public body can reach back in time and claim a vote is invalid. That is a question that has not been answered by the New Mexico courts, but common sense says that undermines democracy.”
