Attorney Kate Ferlic’s request for a public hearing for J. Steven Baca was approved 4-1, and in return the public had an rare inside look into government employee hearings. During the 7 hours of testimony mostly from the district, Ferlic established J. Steven Baca was removed as principal of Ortiz Middle School after he questioned a few of Santa Fe Public Schools Superintendent Joel Boyd’s policies last summer. Baca became principal in 2012 and was rated “highly effective” in his employee review just two weeks before he was placed on administrative leave.
